Anonymously reply to 33mail emails

We are happy to announce that we have just deployed anonymous reply as a Beta feature for all users.

When you’ve enabled anonymous replies on your account, you will be able to reply to the sender of emails without revealing your real email address to them.

As a lite user you will be limited to a single anonymous reply for evaluation purposes. Premium and Pro users have a daily limit. To enable anonymous reply just login to your dashboard and go to Account Details. You will then see the Reply Settings section where you can enable Anonymous Reply and set a reply name which will be shown to anyone you reply to.

We would love to hear any feedback you have on this feature along with any problems or praise.

If you are not currently a user then sign up for 33mail here.

    Hi,
anonymous reply sounds a really good feature, but I’m not clear how to use it. I’ve enabled it & set up the name I want to use, – do I then just reply through the email address that my 33.mail address forwards to?
(sorry if I’m being a bit dim here! Great product!)

I would like to respond to anonymous emails from craigslist users and remain anonymous. I have tried a 33mail account and I dont think this is possible. Can someone tell me how. I feel like when I get signed up for a bunch of spam from craigslist users.

If you have anonymous reply enabled on your account you can reply to an email received via a 33mail alias and it will be routed through our servers hiding your actual email address. Be sure to remove any 33mail headers from the mail before replying though.

I use Thunderbird, and when I click “reply” to a msg sent via 33Mail, the address shown in the From field is my regular one rather than 33Mail. I don’t understand how that will be anonymous. What am I missing? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for the help.

Carolyn is right. You have to enter the reply-to-address manually (copy – paste or click on it). Clicking the “Reply”-button does not produce an anonymous reply.
I have checked the headers of the message: The “Mail-Reply-To:”-entry is wrong. It should contain the same address as “Reply-To:”.

It would be great if the Reply-button could be used. Thanks for your efforts, Andrew!

I’m sorry, but I can’t work out how to reply to e-mails? I can’t get my 33mail address to appear in the “from” address? I have tried both Thunderbird and Yahoo.
      What am I doing wrong?

    Hi

All in all it’s a great feature but after using it for a few weeks it has some major shortcomings:

    1) It falls down flat on it’s face when anyone else is CC’d. If you use ‘reply to all’ anyone who has been CC’d will see sender@33mail.com as the sender’s from address and longcode@reply.33mail.com in the reply to address instead of the email address they expect to see on their mail client. The way to handle this seems to me to change the sender as well as the addresses cc’d into somelongcode@reply.33mail.com addresses.
    2) The anonymous reply seems to work by replacing the reply to address instead of the actual from address in a mail header. Thus when anyone using Outlook receives your reply it’s not from your own name, it is from 33Mail [mailto:sender@mailer.33mail.com] On Behalf Of [Your anon name set up on the portal]. Can the normal reply to address not be replaced with longcode@reply.33mail.com to fix this?
    3) The sender’s email address is effectively hijacked. You can’t opt out of anonymous reply if you wanted to unless you know the sender’s address or it is in their signature. You can never find out who longcode@reply.33mail.com is. This seems to me to be dead simple to fix. Why can’t the sender’s email address be placed in the text at the top of any mail routed through 33mail.com ? ‘This email was sent to the alias ‘alias@yourdomain.com’, and 33Mail forwarded it to you [FROM THE EMAIL ADDRESS sender@domain.com] . Or alternatively, list the senders using a particular alias on the portal.
To block all further emails to this alias click here’
    4) ZERO SUPPORT. I’ve emailed support@33mail.com about issues with the service and have not received a response for just short of a month. Is anyone READING THIS BLOG EVEN?

As per the last reply by Carolyn, Thunderbird won’t let you reply using the 33mail address. Being a bit dimwitted myself, I have not been able to work out how to reply using the 33mail product?

The text of the message to which I’m replying is included in the response – and it shows a block of text saying that email has been forwarded by 33mail, and says the address it has been forwarded to!

    Maybe doesn’t work through Outlook?
